Day 42 - more tourist sights in Georgetown

We were denied breakfast at our hotel restaurant and because it was 10:30am no one was serving breakfast so we made do with banana roti (pancake) at an indian place nearby.  We made use of our scooter rental and dropped postcards off at the Post Office.

We navigated our way to the Khoo Kongsi, the grandest Chinese clanhouse in the country.  It was built in 1851 as a clanhouse for clan members who were emigrating from China.  Its now a UNESCO World Heritage area and a big tourist attraction.

In the heart of Georgetown

Anna & The King was filmed here!

Tourists are strictly forbidden to roll the granite balls in the dogs mouth

So much detail!

Creepy set-up in the clan house

After the Khoo visit we trekked over to the main street and dropped off the scooter, making sure to take some pics of Campbell Street!

On the way back to the hotel we found the famed Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, which is a 2 storey courtyard house that was built in the 19th century.   It is now a hotel and tourist attraction - but they only let you go in twice a day (which we missed)!

CCTV is watching you!

We spend the rest of the afternoon in the pool and then we made our way to the Red Garden Food Paradise, a food court with an amazing variety of dishes!

Malaysian Ringgits!

On the way back to our hotel we stopped in on the Eastern Oriental Hotel, which was originally built in 1885 and has housed Sir Noel Coward, Rudyard Kipling, Charlie Chaplin and Michael Jackson!  We signed the glam guestbook and skedaddled back to our less-fab hotel.
The tree was glorious!
